Most fans of Shower With Goats have heard the tale that S.W.G. formed from the ashes of a cheesy 1/2 metal, 1/2 punk band called M.N.F.S.T. The letters stood for Microwaveable Nuns From Satans Territory, so if you thought Shower With Goats was a stupid name, you can see clearly why little was mentioned about the roots of the pre-SWG band including the full name.I, the vocalist/guitarist of SWG and the SWG drummer Dave Goldberg who have been friends since 1st grade, made up the core of M.N.F.S.T. That's right... a 2 person band. Toward the end of the band, we actually had a bass player in the form of one talented Alicia Baker. She appears in the last M.N.F.S.T. demo titled "Suckfist".
Enclosed in the zip file are the long lost, original 3 M.N.F.S.T. demo tapes including cover art. The first demo "One Beautiful Afternoon in the Graveyard" was strictly metal, and pretty bad metal at that.
On the 2nd demo, "Crypt Orchid", I introduced my longtime love of punk music in 1/2 of the songs, including the very first pop punk song I ever wrote called "Images Of You", and a darker Pennywise influenced gem called "Where Evil Lies".
On the 3rd, and Final Demo titled "Suckfist", We got rid of most of the metal sound, sans one track called "Put To The Test".
It's almost hard to believe that in a year or two after these tapes were made, the 8 song SWG demo tape was recorded. What a drastic change, and improvement.
If you can bare to listen all the way through all of the songs, you'll find some pretty funny stuff. (Check out the end of the song "Jump But Fail To Fall", and about 1 minute into "Vampire Of The Dark", after the intro. God we were geeks.
I use to be embarrased to let anyone other than friends hear these recordings, but it's been about 17 years since these came out, and I am proud to let everyone hear them as an accomplishment of my youth, and as the footprints leading to what is Shower With Goats.
Enjoy.
