A band named Boxcar sprung onto the south and central New Jersey punk scene, and had the kids screaming "where the fuck have you been all of this time?". Catchy, raw, fun, pop/punk is one thing they dished out well. They were a staple in the NJPP (New Jersey Pop Punk) scene and played shows almost every weekend with bands like Bigwig, Go Real Slow, and my band SWG, among many others. For a while Boxcar and SWG played almost every show together. We were like brother bands. Man those were good times. Times that I reflect on often, and smile about. As a matter of fact, Boxcar frontman Derek Burgess is the person who adorned me my punk rock namesake "Steve Neurotic". But that is a story left for another day. The original lineup consisted of Derek on Vox/Guitars, Chris Newman on Bass, and Jay Battle on drums. The Boxcar photos in this post are from that original lineup. In 1996 Battle left and Bnuts took over on drums for the rest of the bands duration.

Fast forward 4 years to 2000. Boxcar disbands (along with SWG, oddly enough)... and a chill period is taken. Then in 2005, Derek, and veteran Boxcar drummer Bnuts form the band BurnWest. Sadly I don't have any stories to tell about them as I had left Jersey that year... but I can tell you that with age comes some of Burgess's best song writing to date. If you were a fan of Boxcar, you can't not like BurnWest. They were around until 2008. Another band, come and gone... well before their time. These 2 bands touched the lives of many and surely will remain a memory for many people, for many years to come.

Included in this zip below: From Boxcar, their 7" release, and some exclusive tracks from CD compilations. They played in the New Found Glory/Blink 182 style that was popular during those years. I found out about them because the guitarist Brent Mulligan was the designer of my old website, poppunk.com. I made the trip up to Mass once to see them play and was impressed. The boys pumped out a number of catchy tunes. I'm not sure what happened or why they disbanded, but I know I had high hopes for them at one point.

Included in the zip file linked below is their 5 songs that they released on a split CD with bands Go48, and Carpet Patrol, Their Spring 2001 demo, and a bunch of Rough Demos that I don't believe ever got mixed or released. I saw them play at a basement show of some guys house in North Brunswick, NJ and was instantly hooked.

My band SWG, ended up playing several shows with them, and Chris was even the fill-in bass player for us at a show we played with Rhythm Collision in 1996. I remember getting an unreleased 4 song demo tape from Chris, and playing the hell out of it. I always thought they'd do something great as Sefler. Unfortunately the high school aged band didn't stick around long, as Chris moved on to bigger and better things.

I always wished Sefler would've stuck around longer though, because to this day, I think that Chris's raw, emphatic voice was better suited to pop/punk.

3 of the 4 songs from the unreleased demo tape I mentioned above, ended up on their only official release..... a 7" record titled "13 Hours of Everything". The 4th song, "Dweeb" was to my surprise, never released. I say to my surprise because it was actually my favorite of the 4 songs.

To this day, I've never seen the song posted, or even mentioned anywhere online. So consider this the virgin/birthplace of "Dweeb" on the internet. If you find it anywhere else... be certain it originated here. (Hey... I've gotta give myself whatever meager props I can, eh?)

Those 4 songs are included in the zip file linked below, along with 2 extremely rare tracks "Month of Sundays" and "About Waking Up" that they released on the CD compilation called "Random Wood: Volume 1" on the tiny NJ Iguana Records, label.

Enjoy !

http://www.mediafire.com/?jilgoiv5f1mnljvSteve Neurotichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00955100610337091107noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189084593899833433.post-52249417393285912482011-03-06T20:33:00.001-08:002012-04-23T18:49:26.710-07:00JobbernowlJobbernowl was a South Florida band circa late 80's, early 90's that featured Omar, the original bass player for "Quit". They were only around for a few years, but they pumped out several great releases. Enclosed in the zip file below is their "My Sight 10 inch" from Dr. Strange Records, and their 12 song Cassette only LP titled "Static Head", that I believe was self released.

Some notable tracks to get your first taste of Jobbernowl are "Regret" from the 10" and "Changed My Mind" from Static Head, which shows off Omar's awesome and catchy slap bass technique. Happy 2011! Over 1 year since the last post. Been crazy busy, but still plan on adding a bunch of stuff here as time allows so check back every so often.

Another Resurgents post. This zip file contains 20 songs that I've compiled from their 4 way split CD, a few compilations, and some unreleased stuff that the vocalist Brett gave me on a Digital Audio Tape in 1997. More great songs from these Screeching Weasel / Green Day influenced Carlisle, PA boys that disbanded way too early for my liking. Enjoy. :)
These guys spit out some catchy ass tunes like it was childs play. If you want proof, just listen to "Walking Away" or "Kristy White Song". Essentially, Congress Of Cow became Lanemeyer.... but for me... COC will always be #1.
In May-June 1995 when I was 17 years old, Shower With Goats entered the studio for the first time under our new name (we previously went as M.N.F.S.T., a 1/2 punk 1/2 metal band... but that's a whole other blog post to "possibly" come in the future in itself).
What we recorded would be first released as an 8 song demo of 5 originals, and 3 covers. About 200 or so tapes were made and sold. After they sold out, we decided to remove the Op Ivy and Samiam covers from the tape, and re-release it as a 6 song demo (so people wouldn't think we were a cover band or something). 200 or so of those were made/sold as well.

Both the same recording, only we dropped two songs for the 6 song demo.

Included in the zip file are all 8 demo tracks, cover scans of both tapes, and 2 unreleased tracks of filler shit we did in the studio (a horrible rendition of Spy Hunter, and us screaming and making animal noises). Enjoy !
First post here in over a year. Apologies for the long delay!

The Resurgents were a Pop-Punk band from Carlisle, PA formed from the ashes of the pop-punk band 3:6 (Also featured in this blog as our very first post). Vocalist/guitarist Brett Dolimpio continued on with his catchy tunes ala Screeching Weasel & early Green day. These guys released, several demo tapes, a 4 way split CD, and this 7" record before hanging up their hats in the late 90's .

I believe this 4-songer on German label Barracuda Rex was possibly their final release. I have heard rumors that a full length CD existed after this, but I have yet to this day, to see a copy.
I.D.K. was a staple in the New Jersey punk and hardcore scenes from the early to late 90's. They split up in 1998 and reformed 10 years later in January of 2008.

I picked up this 3 song demo tape of theirs at Vintage Vinyl Records in Fords, NJ back in 1994. I had never heard of them before but as always, I figured the $3 they were asking for the tape (which the band maybe saw a dollar of) wasn't going to hurt my wallet and would support a local act. I wouldn't necessarily call the songs on this demo pop/punk, but rather melodic punk with both a tinge of pop/punk and a hardcore or rock edge.

A year or two later the band exploded in the North East with their "Taking on the Monster," EP, followed by their full length "Til' Death Do Us Part."

These 3 early cuts ripped rather nicely despite being from a 14 year old cassette. Only 1 of the songs, "Adjustment", was later re-recorded and appears on the "Til' Death Do Us Part" full length. The other 2 songs to the best of my knowledge, are exclusive to this demo.

1) Adjustment
2) Right Or Wrong
3) Mingwatt

Enjoy.
No, this is NOT the same The Leftovers from the North East, that play Ramones inspired pop/punk. This is however, the Florida ska/punk band The Leftovers, that time has seemed to forget.

I picked up this 7" of theirs titled "A Few Days Difference" at the old Far Out Records store in Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1995. Unfortunately I know nothing of what became of the band or if they had any other releases.

In this 7" you will hear high school aged members stirring up some catchy ska/punk hooks and jabs with somewhat amusing lyrics. Be forewarned that the vocals are very whiney, pre-pubescent sounding and honestly, kind of annoying. That may however be your cup of tea.

Enjoy.
Bernies' Fixxx was a Pop/Punk outfit from North Jersey, circa mid 90's. To my knowledge they only put out this one 3 song 7" titled "Tragedy", but I may be mistaken.

Unfortunately I never got to see these guys live. Shortly after I purchased this record around 1995, I saw a flyer posted for a show to benefit the family of one of the singers of Bernies' Fixxx, as he had just passed away. The band, for obvious reasons, split up after that. I'll always wonder how many other great songs they could've written. Long live their music.
80's rock in a punk blog?! P-Shaw! This single is from the REAL Steve Neurotic archives.

When I was about 4 years old, my parents let me hear "Runaway" by the late Del Shannon. That was when I knew I wanted to be a singer. I used to run around singing that song at the top of my lungs as a little kid. I was 4 years old and knew all of the lyrics to that song.

So in 1986 when the drummer of the rock band "Renegade", Luis Cardenas went solo and recorded a record including a loud remake of my favorite childhood song, I had to have the single for it. I still have that 7" record by the way, but have spared you by not ripping the songs from that because as a 9 year old kid... I didn't take very good care of my vinyl. Hee.

Some of you may remember the video for the Runaway cover as it featured a bunch of dinosaurs with mohawks and even included a cameo appearance toward the end of Del Shannon himself.

The B side to the single called "Still Waiting" was also a favorite of mine. Behold... here is a nice digital rip of both tracks.
Missing Children were around approx between 1994 and 1996, and hailed from Jameburg, New Jersey. Their influences ran all over the place anywhere from ALL and Operation Ivy to old Calif. hardcore, to angry '77 style punk rock. That may sound like a mess... but they pulled it all together rather sweetly.
Missing Children Vocalist Frank P. is better known as the guitarist of "The Degenerics". Degenerics Vocalist Craig, was also a member of Missing Children, towards the end of the band. In a nutshell... Missing Children became The Degenerics in some weird way. I had some good times hanging out and playing shows with my band with these guys, in my late teens. Check out the photo collage above of Missing Children, taken by yours truly at a show of theirs at a punk house on Handy St. in New Brunswick, NJ around Sept 1994.
Included in the megaupload zip file linked below, is their only official release from 1995, (a self titled, self-released 7 song 7" record) and ALSO!!!.... their UNRELEASED 4 song demo tape from 1994 that features earlier recordings of 3 songs from the 7", and one song that was never released anywhere else called "Going Nowhere".
The Fiendz are perhaps the innovators of New Jersey Pop Punk. They blasted onto the NJ Scene over 20 years ago in 1987, and to this day, are still kicking ass live and putting out records. My personal favorite of their releases is their 2nd 7" record titled "Havin' Fun", circa 1988. "I Don't Love You" and "Never Wanted Her To Go" still get me to bop around like I did the first time I saw "The Ramones" live as a kid.
Back in the late 80s to mid 90s Shredder Records (Jawbreaker, Jolt, Parasites) released some incredible stuff. One series that was popular amongst the punk kiddies was their World In Shreds compilation 7"s (and later World in Shreds CDs). Nowadays these are pretty scarce to come by. Most people that have them in their collection don't wish to part with them, and for good reason.
This is my favorite of the batch of course, and brings back many good memories. Be sure and check out the first track, a very very early version of "The Lot" by Sticks & Stones, that is far better than the re-recorded version on their CD, and the P.E.D. track "I Am The Sam" for some classic NJ Hardcore with a Beastie Boys / Anthrax twist.

1) Sticks and Stones - The Lot
2) Separate Peace - Need
3) Parasites - Never Giving Up On You
4) The Undead - The Way We Behave
5) P.E.D. - I Am The Sam
6) A Priori - Too Much To Hope For
First off, if you missed the last Fiber post, with their only official release, go here.

Due to the popularity of the last "Fiber" post I'm posting more from my archives.

Included in the megaupload zip file at the bottom of this post is:

1) Fiber - El Guapo Demo
This is a demo tape they recorded on a 4 track in Vocalist Paulas old basement in New Jersey. It was never released, and featured a mysterious drummer from a well known hardcore band that shall remain unnamed, or rather known as "El Guapo".

2) Fiber - Acoustic Demo
This is also unreleased, and was the first Fiber recording ever made. You can even hear yours truly do horrible backup vocals on the song "Everything About You".

3) Fiber - University - Live on WFMU 12/18/97
A track I hand picked from their WFMU session on the Pat Duncan show, because a. the song rocked and b. it was never recorded anywhere else. Unfortunately the vocals are really really low and hard to hear, but it's one of my favorite Fiber songs.

And no... I won't post the entire WFMU Fiber session. Gotta keep some things in the vault after all! Enjoy.
Simple Mischief was around during the late 90's in central New Jersey (Bordentown to be specific). They were all high school kids, but still played some pretty damn catchy tunes. A bit of pop/punk, a hint of heavier punk, a tinge of hardcore, and even a touch of ska here and there for no other reason than "just because". Around 2000, the band disbursed. A few of the members went on to form another band called "The Arena Drive" who were together for a few years and will be posted in this blog sometime in the near future.
Contained in the 92mb zip file for this gone, but not forgotten band, I've included their demo tape "Dance Your Cares Away", their first CD/EP (Which I myself produced for them) called "100% D.I.Y. Punk Rock Demo CD", and their first and only full length "Jumping Life's fences". Also, included is 2 extra tracks from the "D.I.Y. Demo CD" sessions I produced, that were never released. Grab these classic tunes and remember the days of Peanut Butter and Jelly & Wigwams.
After my last post regarding the defunct Chicago area band "Full", a friend of mine informed me that the band in fact released a full length CD in 1998 titled "Hotdogwater Cocktail" on the Acme Entertainment label. The CD is long out of print, but I picked up a copy from Amazon for a mere buck.
This doesn't hold my attention as well as the 4 song demo tape, but is still good as a whole. Two things that dissapoint me about this CD are:

1) Only one of the songs from the demo made it to the CD. "Inconvenienced".

2) Some of the production is a bit cheesy. (Listen to the vocals at the beginning of "Control".)

Some noteworthy songs to check out from this release are "Dig #1", "Pepsled", and "Fads".
Back in 1997 I had the idea of putting out a compilation of punk bands doing 50's and 60's covers. It was suppose to be released in 1998, then got delayed to 1999, and then.... never got released at all. The reasoning? Partly funding issues, but the main reason was that by the time I actually got all of the tracks from the bands, 1/2 of the bands on the compilation had already broken up. It got tossed to the wayside.... until now that is. For your listening pleasure I present to you, "officially" for the first time... "BURGERAMA". Complete with the original half done cover art at the top of this post. (It was suppose to be full color).

Track list:

1) Racer Ten - Please, Please Me (The Beatles)
2) Shower With Goats - Pretty Little Angel Eyes (Curtis Lee)
3) Ridiculum - At The Hop (Danny and the Juniors)
4) Fiber - Leader Of The Pack (Shangri-La's)
5) Less Than Jake - Teenager In Love (Dion & the Belmonts)
6) Blankface - I Think We're Alone Now (Tommy James & the Shondells)
7) Yermomlluvus - We Belong Together (Richie Valens)
8) 78 RPM's - Be My Baby (The Ronettes)
9) Speedbump - Stay (Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs)
10) Velour 44 - Rock N' Roll Is Here To Stay (Danny and the Juniors)
11) Go Real Slow - In The Still Of The Night (The Five Satins)
12) Operation Cliff Clavin - Blue Moon (The Marcels)
13) Supermarket All Stars - It's My Party (Lesley Gore)
14) Makeshift - La Bamba (Richie Valens)
15) Skam Impaired - Yakety Yak (The Coasters)
16) The Peacocks - Listen To Me (Buddy Holly)
17) Resurgents - Let's Go Steady Again (Neil Sedaka)
18) Santiago 301 - Bongo Twist (Vince Castro)
19) Blackhead - Maybe Baby (Buddy Holly)

Enjoy.

Anyone who knows me knows that my 2nd favorite band on this planet (The Ramones of course being the 1st), is the legendary South Florida band Quit. Quit played with a passion and sincerity that I have yet to this day, hear in another band. Hell... Quit is the band that inspired me to start Shower With Goats. That should tell you something.

What you will find in the below Mediafire link, is one of my favorite live Quit shows that I have. Ex Quit bassist Tony Rocha hooked me up with this when I was staying with him for a week back in 1994. It's a great recording from a soundboard. You will hear a small bit of tape hiss, and one tape warp toward the end of the song "Anymore" due to the cassette I ripped this from being 14 years old. Other than that, it's a great live recording that captures Quit as many old fans remember them..... rocking the fucking socks off of everyone.

Here's the set list:

1) Did You See
2) Dedication / Changes
3) To Go
4) Answers
5) Anymore
6) Green Day Cover
7) It's All The Same
8) Baracas / Indigestion
9 ) Contradictions

Enjoy, and there's more live Quit recordings of equal quality to come.
At times they had a indie/hardcore feel that fans of Copper and Ashes could relate to. Other times they broke out with more punk influenced ditties. But none of that can explain how unique and refreshing they were. It's a band you just have to hear for yourself.
Unfortunately I do not know much about "Full" other than the fact that they played addicting Descendents / ALL / Big Drill Car style Pop-Punk and were from the Chicago suburbs. A girl that I use to write and trade punk tapes with through the mail sent me their demo in '94. Sometime in 1995 I wrote the address listed on their demo tape asking if they had any other releases, and was informed they had broken up.

Enjoy this 4 song classic that goes by way too fast for my liking.
